Tell your doctor if you have had recent surgery, or if for any reason could not walk, or if you have ever had kidney disease or liver. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant or if you are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking this medication, call your doctor immediately. You should not breastfeed while taking calcitriol. If you are going to be subjected to any surgery, including dental, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking calcitriol.

Tell your doctor and your pharmacist what medications with and without prescription are taking, such as vitamins, nutritional supplements and products made from herbs, including:
  • Supplements of calcium.
  • Colestyramine (Questran).
  • Colestipol (Colestid).
  • Digoxin (Lanoxin).
  • Diuretics, ketoconazole (Nizoral).
  • Lantano (Fosrenol).
  • Laxatives.
  • Oral steroids such as dexamethasone (Decadron, Dexone), methylprednisolone (Medrol) and prednisone (Deltasone).
  • Other forms of vitamin D.
  • Phenobarbital (Luminal, Solfoton).
  • Phenytoin (Dilantin) and sevelamer (Renagel).
